Hanging in a restroom at work is an inspirational poster entitled, "Things I've Learned." On it is approximately 50 life lessons written by people of various ages. It's been there for years, and I always read a line or two in the thirty or so seconds I have to do my business before the bell rings and have to run back to class. It never fails to make me smile, even on the very worst of days. For this months ICLW, I'll share a few of the things I've learned over the past few years.
I've learned that...
- ...Pepsi still tastes better than Coke. I keep trying to give Coke a chance to make a better impression, but it still fails miserably.
- ...chocolate consumption can neutralize a crappy day. The worse the day is, the more I eat, and the better I feel.
- ...Oreos and milk make a damn good dinner on occasion--like last night.
- ...bad things sometimes happen to good people.
- ...even on my worst day, I have it better than someone else; so, I should really stop complaining.
- ...when I think things couldn't possibly get any worse, they often do. So,
- ...it is better to not think things could get worse.
- ...there are lessons to be learned from everyone around us. The hard part is to open yourself up to learn those lessons.
- ...a lot of times I am far too hard on myself.
- ...it is okay to not always be perfect. Hard. But okay.
- ...I don't have to have all the answers.
- ...my successes and failures have made me the person I am today.
- ...I just might be an okay person.
- ...I just might be an okay mother.
- ...I couldn't have asked for more handsome and brilliant children. :-)
- ...when you think you've finally got things all figured out, someone will always go and change everything.
- ...change can be a very good thing, even if it is scary.
- ...when it comes to choosing between cleaning a messy house or going to the park with your children, there really is no contest.
- ...if someone comments on your messy house, she really isn't the friend you thought she was. (yes, that happened.)
- ...my mom is a really good friend when I need her to be and an awesome mom always.
- ...my husband is perfect just the way he is. (Although I could do without the snoring.)
- ...changing my perspective about something makes a world of difference.
- ... for me, infertility hurts just as much after children as it did before children.
- ...waiting is one of the hardest things to do.
- ...the blogosphere is filled with wonderful, caring, and beautiful women. I am so glad I found them!
Happy ICLW! Great list, I think I might do this one tomorrow. I've done the ABC's a few times, I think. I agree that the park always wins over a clean house!

I agree, Peps IS much better then Coke. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI like this one a lot. I might just have to do this sometime this week. And, I still like you even if you have the mistaken, demented notion that Pepsi tastes better.
ReplyDeleteI've learned that nothing will go the way I think it will and that this is okay.
ReplyDeleteI've learned that trying to get friends that you have gained prior to IF to magically be exactly the support you crave is unfair. And that I have the capacity to love strangers as much as I love my own dear friends...
ReplyDeletePresent company included. :o)
Thanks for putting me on your celebrations bar! I didn't even occur to me until I got here today. (I'm a little behind this week---slightly distracted!)
Happy ICLW!!!
I'm a coke fan :p
ReplyDeleteBut I will agree on #21 (especially with doing away with snoring!!)
Someone really commented on your housework?!
ReplyDeleteCoke is better than Pepsi, in my book.
I love your list. What I have learnt:
90% of the things we worry about never happen, and we can't do anything about the other 10% anyway. So worrying is a total waste of time.
XOXOXOX
That is a great list.
ReplyDeleteAaaah...I love Pepsi. And chocolate....
ReplyDeleteI have learnt that if it is yours, nobody can take it away from you.
*ICLW*
I hate Coke, but LOVE Pepsi (especially regular, not Diet!) And chocolate rocks.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list!
Happy ICLW week!

Love your list! Although I have yet to learn number 1, in your case I think numbers 13 and 14 should be more than "just might", I love number 21 and 23 makes me a little sad.
ReplyDeleteChocolate- mmmm. I'm not a fan of either Coke or Pepsi, myself, preferring to stick with non-carbonated beverages (unless it's beer... God I miss beer).
ReplyDeleteHappy ICLW! Love your list.
