Okay, for all you nay-sayers out there, it is possible to speak to the animals. And, contrary to popular belief, this doesn't mean that I am some modern day Dr. Doolittle. Actually, animal speaking is quite common. Case in point:
1) Let's not forget the horse and dog whisperers. Now these people communicate regularly with animals. I am willing to concede that this isn't through noises and actual voices, per say, but "speaking" is happening.
2) Just the other day, Ellen talked to an owl on her show. Jack Hanna was amazed and said that never in his life had he heard said owl "talk" to someone like that. When Jack tried himself, the owl simply turned his head and acted indifferent. Every time Ellen would hoot, that owl had to respond. This is what I mean by talking.
3) My dad always wanted to be a vet and has a way with animals. He can calm wild animals in a matter of hours. He did it at least three documented times (although he claims it happens more often that we don't see): Kitty, Morris, and Black Cat are living proof. I know, he can tame animals, but he isn't all that creative when it comes to naming them. Anyway, talking to the animals is in the blood.
4) A young protege at the fair, after hearing my speaking with the animals, attempted to communicate with the animals herself. She was around 4 years old. She actually had pretty much mastered guinea talk by the time we left. I must say, I was quite proud. :-)
5) Growing up I had just about every pet you could imagine--well anything you could imagine a city dweller having. I'm talking dogs (pre-allergy days), cats, guinea pigs, mice, pigeons, ducks, geese, a bat, rabbits, hamsters, lizards, frogs, and...I know there are some I am missing, but I am tired and can't think right now.
6) Animals do tend to gravitate toward me. I just give off the vibe I guess. Dogs especially love me, which figures because I am allergic.
7) And, last but not least, think about it. You know you talk to your pets and can swear they respond. You do it, too! Admit it! My cats and I have long conversations. It makes my husband crazy because they never talk to him. He just doesn't get it...maybe because he is a guy?
What are your talking to the animals stories? Any special languages that you've mastered? Let's hear it!
My story is nice and long... A nice memory for me. I will post it on my blog for all to read. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for asking the question!
I didn't say I thought you were odd that you could talk to animals. I said I was nosy and wanted to hear it. There's a difference!!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to think if I've ever talked to animals in special ways. I talk to my dogs constantly and sometimes they even talk back. Especially when I have milk bones in my hand!
Oh, I know that! No worries, there! I am not sure I am willing to document (and share) my actual "speech" just yet. Besides, this is all in fun!
ReplyDeleteYou had a pet bat???
