I finally got in touch with the surgery coordinator for the urologist today. We've been playing one hell of a game of phone tag (she is off work by 3 pm every day and off on Fridays). Anyway, Sh.awn's hernia repair is scheduled for next Thursday the 5th, at 7:30 am. We have to be at the hospital at the inhumane hour of 5:30 am. His surgery will be up first, and if all goes as well as expected, we should be back at our house by 2. I am in denial about this surgery actually happening. I mean, I know it's coming, but I am doing a pretty good job of pretending it isn't. Think I've finally cracked? Probably.
Actually, the month of February isn't shaping up to be all that great if you want to know the truth. It begins with the boys' eye appointments (which will most likely tell us that Ja.son will also need surgery to correct his eyes), moves on to the surgery for Sh.awn, includes a wonderful visit with the OB to hopefully figure out what is up with my tubes and get me a referral to the RE, adds in the one year anniversary of the school incident on the 12th (and the media issues that will likely follow), and ends with a neurologist visit. Fun times. The only saving grace so far is the four day president's weekend. Bleh. Can we just skip this month, please?

Today, my boys once again shocked me. They've been pretty reluctant to eat foods other than the stage 3 baby foods. Foods with texture might be okay while they are on the tongue, but the second they get anywhere near the actual throat area, gagging and puking often ensue. Well, that is maybe a slight exaggeration, but you get my drift. The only thing I can get them to eat regularly that would qualify as "real" food (and I do use that term loosely) is the Ger.ber finger foods. But tonight? Tonight they did this...
The boys who won't eat apples, because, you know, the chunks are too big, decided that today they'd have pieces of grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough bread. Shawn had around three bites while Jason had about a fourth of a sandwich!
I nearly fell off my chair!
I can't wait to kiss those stupid jars of baby food goodbye!!!!
I'll be thinking of you over the next month. Maybe you'll get some good news that will reshape February for you.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest daughter would only eat the jar or cups of fruit, mac and cheese, and anything that else is/was cheese flavored.
Let me see if this works. I tried getting on here when you were asking about people "lurking" and whatever I did to sign in was unsuccessful and thus, I was still "lurking!" Very frustrating. Love your blogs, girl. Those boys are absolutely the cutest little guys on the planet (I have a girl, so I can make that comment!) Fun, fun. Laurie
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling all better!
ReplyDeletekids are so funny about what they will eat :)
ReplyDeletelooks like your feb is going to be busy.
hang in there.
Stacie- they are so adorable I want to break my computer screen and hug them!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad they are loving the actual food. It took some time of trying before my girls stopped gagging on food, but now they love it!
I gave them ices yesterday for the first time and they were LOVING it.
YAY for eating!! Sooo exciting! Kissing the baby food goodbye is SO nice. Shelf space galore! Ish! Cause you know they're replaced by cans of veggies, fruit, and gerber meals. :)
ReplyDeletelol
Feel better soon!!
Cheese sandwiches have always been my favorite :)
ReplyDeleteTry eggs with cheese on them. Another big hit at our house :)
YAY BOYS! That is a gre video. I just love watching them grow into strong young boys! Your doing a fantastic job Mom!
ReplyDeleteAhhhm gee. I dont know if my last comment went through or not so sorry if this is a double. But I said something like this:
ReplyDeleteYAY!! I love watching them grow into strong boys. Your doing a fantastic job Mom.
And you've even made me hungry for a grilled cheese sandwich.
yay for grilled cheese!
ReplyDeleteUgh - Can we just skip February? Sounds stressful! But really, you are strong, the boys are strong, you will get through it just fine. One day at a time.
ReplyDeleteYay, for the boys eating. They really are so darn cute!
Great job eating food boys!
ReplyDeleteAt 22 months we STILL have jars of baby food because they refuse to eat any vegetable that is not sweet potato in a jar. UGH!
Hopefully your upcoming appointments will bring GOOD news. I know it's hard to imagine but maybe??
Sorry you're not feeling well still!
ReplyDeleteFebruary does sound to be suck-filled for you. Hopefully there will be enough happy to offset it.
I've had awfully good luck transitioning Andrew to the Gerber Graduates meals. The little microwavable cups of chicken stew and mac&cheese ... the mashed potato side dishes ... the textures are a nice step up from stage 3 without being "here, eat table food kid!". I mean, he does eat table food, too, but with a whopping 4 teeth a lot of it is too hard for him, and the Graduates stuff is plenty mushy for him.
Wow, you must make a mean grilled cheese! They are so cute and cuddley! I would love to play with them so if you are ever in Indiana...
ReplyDeletecyberhug love,
Cindy
The video is SO cute. I love how you sound so sweet and happy when you talk to them - it's really adorable. Yeah for food progress! Meme
ReplyDeletemmmmmm.... grilled cheese. the video was adorable. and the boys are adorable as always!
ReplyDeletehope you are feeling better.
