Ja.son did manage to develop the ear infection. Fun. He has been such a bear to be around this week because of it. He wants to be held at all times, and I better not even think of touching (or looking at) Sh.awn or all hell breaks loose. I swear I have held that kid for four days straight. Keep your fingers crossed. I think he might be feeling better today--finally.

We are in the middle of state testing this week. That in itself isn't all that horrible, but the way the administration set up the testing schedule leaves something to be desired. The kids are with me for 4 hours straight. Again, that isn't horrible in itself, but I have one particular student who is driving me up the wall. Granted, he can drive me up the wall in a regular 53 minute period, but I am getting way too much time with this kid. (I realize that this sounds terrible, but dude. This kid is high maintenance.)

I just got word today that the principal is going to make me change grade levels next year. I am most upset about the whole thing. The reason? State layoffs have meant we had to reduce our department by one teacher, which would leave 2 7th grade teachers, 2 8th grade teachers, and 1 teacher that does both 7th and 8th grade. One of the possible teachers had a "rough year," another teacher is "fragile," and the other choices went to talk to the principal and specifically asked to not be moved (why didn't I think of that?), which leaves me to take up the slack. Now I am all for being part of the team and all, but I am tired of having to take one for the team every single time because the people around me can't get their act together. Bleh. For just once, I'd like to be the one that everyone walked on eggshells around.
I told him if I HAVE to, I'd do it for 1 year and then expect the other teachers to take their turns. He agreed. It won't be finalized formally until closer to the end of school.
Oh, and the kid who is driving me up the wall was bestowed upon me by the teacher with the "rough year." Apparently I don't have tough students or rough years myself.

ReplyDeleteI hope your babe feels better. earaches are the worst. I am a big baby when I get an ear infection. It's the worst. Too bad I am not small and can curl onto someones lap when I am sick.

ReplyDeleteI moved up one year two years ago (but that's where I wanted to be). Lots of layoffs all over the country, unfortunately. Think of it as a compliment (you are a great teacher and can adapt well, unlike the others).
