ReplyDeleteThe second part of my comment you can just completely ignore if you feel like everything the school district was saying was spot on. But in case you have any lingering doubts, then let me just offer a slightly different perspective. If it should be that your adorable boys might benefit from a little more help before Kindergarten starts, I can tell you from experience that it is much easier and more effective to do early on. And the schools really do have an incentive to deny services. I know you work in the school system, and I certainly don't want to bash anyone, but this isn't an objective process simply based on need. If you felt like they could benefit from some more services, you could fight their conclusions and seek services. It gets much more difficult to get the services later. Plus, it is much more intrusive once school starts for real. Just my thoughts based on my own experience.

You know, I might have misunderstood. Maybe it wasn't that they don't get the benefit of any services (should you think they might get some benefit from them), but rather that they don't need a special ed classroom. Anyway, take the comment for whatever it may be worth!

ReplyDeleteJust to clarify: Both boys do continue to qualify for services through California Children's Services (CCS) because of their CP diagnosis. There they'll get physical and occupational support for their gross and fine motor skills.
ReplyDeleteThis observation was to evaluate the boys' cognitive skills. The boys don't qualify for special ed services at this time for cognitive development because they f'ing rock. (I always believed they are fine intellectually. My focus has always been to get their bodies to work well. Many times, however, professionals get stuck on the body/movement issues and fail to recognize that their brains actually do work!)

ReplyDeleteWooo Hooo!! I TOLD you they were doing GREAT! :) I'm so happy to see that you guys will be in regular classes instead of special ed. I know there are cases for it, and a need for it, but I have personal experiences that also tell me that if you don't really, really need it you should want to steer clear. Just my 2c. :)
