So Let's See...

A post in bullets because it has been a LONG weekend and I am tired.
  • I've been working on a post about the surprises of parenthood. I can't quite get it to sound the way I want it to, which is annoying me. Someday soon I'll post it.
  • Speaking of posts, I am nearing 1000. Holy cow.
  • Is.aac came back last night. I was annoyed. I got over being annoyed.
  • He gave me a hickey on my chin. Now I am annoyed again. lol. (and wtf with a hickey on my chin? where people can see it! my mom is coming over in a bit and I am all paranoid that she's going to know it is a hickey and think about me doing things that she probably doesn't want to think about me doing. sigh.)
  • The garage isn't clean and Ja.son is still wearing diapers. Boo. I lost all of my desire to conquer the world by Saturday morning when my neck hurt so bad I could hardly move. My neck is still sore today but at least I can finally move it.
  • Jack gave me his first belly laugh last night. I'm in LOVE! He has such a sweet, low laugh. Awww.... :-)
  • I am going to go zip lining with my friends sometime before the 17th. We're making it an overnight trip even though it doesn't really have to be. I am totally excited, although I am a little stressed about leaving the boys.
  • I hear that my boys are NOT SLEEPING. I don't know what they are doing, but I keep hearing bangs and roars of laughter. Those two crack me up.

Friday Night Leftovers (On Friday This Week!)

  • For some reason I always feel like I am chasing everyone else and can't quite get my shit together. This person is able to do (insert something amazing), but I'm not. Another person is able to do (insert something else equally as amazing), yet that amazing thing had never really occurred to me as something that needed to be done until after I saw the other person doing it. It is happening all the time about all kinds of things. I can't say that I am bothered by not having my shit together exactly, even though I am aware that I probably should be. I don't know if that makes sense or not. It is the strangest feeling.
  • Maybe it bothers me that it doesn't bother me.
  • My husband is on a trip to Vegas with his friend, Spawn of Satan. No, that is not his name, but that is what I call him. Anyway, I am flying solo until Sunday, and I am slightly annoyed about it. So, I am on a mission to clean our garage and potty train Ja.son completely before he comes home, just to prove I can.
  • I can only get Ja.son to poop on the potty and not pee. Isn't that backward? Isn't it supposed to be harder to get them to poop instead of pee? I gave the boy TWO glasses of water and waited for a freaking HOUR to get him to pee. I finally had to go feed Jack, so I made him get up. He wouldn't go...until two seconds AFTER I took him off the toilet. Grrr.
  • On his first night gone, I had to get up 5 different times. IT SUCKED. Jack wanted TWO snacks. Jason fell out of bed at one point and had a night terror at another point (and after what happened the last time he had a night terror, I get up and check to see what he is doing now). And just to make sure I didn't ignore her, my cat decided that a glass sliding door was not a sufficient obstacle in her quest to attack some wandering tom cat. She literally tried to break through the glass to get at him. Scared the crap out of me.
  • Hoping tonight goes a lot smoother.
  • I think during one of my nighttime escapades I must have twisted my neck funny. I woke up with a stiff neck. I can barely turn it to the right. I would love to take some of the good stuff to take some of the pain away, but I guess I need to not so I can have my wits about me throughout the night. Boo.
  • Speaking of good stuff, I was getting a cookbook out of a cupboard and found a stash of our prescription medications. (Don't ask why they are in the cupboard. I couldn't really answer why they are there. I have no idea.) Is it odd that we have 6 different types of narcotics between the two of us? And by us, I mean that I have 5 and he has 1? The bottles are pretty much full for them all, too. Maybe it is more odd that I still have them.
  • You know, just in case.
  • Ahem.
Stop by Danifred's and see what everyone else is having.

12 Weeks

I blinked and someone aged 12 weeks...3 months...84 days. How can this be? It is going by too fast. He's getting so big; he's no longer my tiny newborn.

My little Tank. Oh how I love him.

It's been different this time. There's still worry (I can always find something to worry about now), but I'm not working purely on survival mode like I was with the big boys. Without the focus on all that is bad, there is all this TIME to just BE.

I'm savoring this time, enjoying every moment.

I can't even begin to describe how much I love how CALM these past few weeks have been. Even with the chaos of three kids, there is a peace in me...in our family now that just wasn't there before.

My little Tank brought it with him when he entered this world. For that, I will be eternally grateful.

I have to admit that this new feeling is exhilarating...and yet terrifying at the same time. I will forever carry a fear that the other shoe is waiting to drop. Although I know all too well how quickly things can turn, I'm not letting the fear rule me and take control.

If anything, the fear makes me appreciate everything even more. It reminds me of how lucky I truly am.

Happy 3 months to my little Jack. I love you, my boy, with all of my heart.

When It Is Right, You Know It

My in laws got their little girl. After twenty long years of waiting, after three ivfs and COUNTLESS cycles filled with that nagging hope, and not a single positive pregnancy test in all that time, they brought home a beautiful little girl from the hospital.

With a hospital stay, a wheelchair ride to the car, and the whole shebang.

They fought the fight but never thought it would matter--their dream would never come true.

After all that heartache, they won...

My heart is so, so happy for them. To see them with a little baby of their own, while knowing that they had given up the hope that they'd ever be parents, is an amazing sight.

To know that their names were suggested to the birth mom by no less than three people, all at separate times, which led the birth mom to contact them...out of the blue, is even more incredulous. She didn't want anything but a loving family for her baby.

She allowed my ILs to attend the doctor appointments and the ultrasounds.

She allowed them both in the room with her when she gave birth.

And when little A finally made her appearance, she gifted my SIL the first hold of this amazing little girl.

Only after my ILs had shared their moment with their new daughter did the birth mom want to hold her.

When she handed her back, she told them that she knows she made the right decision after seeing them together...

Ugh. It makes me tear up to think about that.

The birth mom gave them as much of the experience of being pregnant as you could get without actually being so.

The baby roomed with my ILs next door to the birth mom for their entire stay. The birth mom relinquished custody in the hospital.

She made it final when little A was three days old.

It will be an open adoption. The birth mom already has two other kids, and my BIL has made plans to take them to the movies to see the Cars2 opening. The ILs want Little A to know her other family. Her other family wants to know her, too. The birth family is comfortable that the ILs will make the final decisions on how much contact there will be between the families and when.

I am often angry with the universe for the injustice of the world. It pains me to know that some seems to so easily have it all while so many others have to struggle for everything they've got. It has made me untrusting and skeptical at times. It's also made me so appreciative when things work out the way I believe in my heart they should.

But this time?

This time I am so thankful. My heart is full.

The universe got this one right.

I'm A Lucky Girl

Really. I am.

I love all my boys very much, and they love me.

Like I said.

I am a very lucky girl.

Happy Father's Day, Babe.

  • School's out for summer! Whoot!
  • The people at work are still stupid. It totally pisses me off, too. The latest things were that people refused to get our departing principal anything as a thank you. Hello. Common courtesy and who freaking cares how you feel about him, morons. Several staff members also refused to sign the card for him. For some reason, that last little act of immaturity really threw me over the edge. I actually told one of the girls she was being an unprofessional bitch and stormed off.
  • Then I continued to give her the dagger stare at the staff celebration later yesterday afternoon.
  • SOOOOO unlike me.
  • But it felt oh so good. (I refuse to worry about how this may come back to haunt me when I get back to work. She really is a bitch.)
  • Surprisingly, I started my period AGAIN (only 22 days since the last one) yesterday.
  • That explains a lot of why I've been so annoyed this week.
  • Sigh.
  • Still tired, but it is amazing what being work free until the end of August has done to my energy level.
  • Well that and having Jack finally eat normally and SLEEP. Ahhhhh....
  • Our BIL and SIL got their baby girl. I have to write a post about it. It makes me all teary to think about how perfectly everything went.
  • I finally got all of the evals on the boys for children's services. It looks like I may need to take out my angry face again. Some details were totally wrong (I was misquoted several times as saying Sh.awn can't do things that he can.) and I think the goals they wrote are crap. I shall update on this when I've thought a bit more about how I am going to respond to all of it. More fun times. I HATE that I always have to fight.
Stop by Danifred's and see what others are sharing.

One more day...only one more day of school.

My brain is mush.

The drama at work has reached epic proportions. I just want to walk around work telling people to just shut their pie holes already. I hate stupidity and drama. I really do.

I got a fairly decent sunburn on a very overcast day today. My face hurts like hell. Oh, and I look like hell, too.

I am beyond worn out. (Jack has not been sleeping well. He apparently needed to up his nipple flow. It only took me two days to figure out that his refusal to eat more than 2 ounces at a time even at night and his increase in GAS and FUSSINESS and GENERAL PISSINESS was because his size 2 nipple was frustrating him. Seriously. Where is this kid's manual?)

I. Can't. Wait.

Before I Had Kids

(Reposted from my family blog)

I judged.

There. I said it. I suppose I have to be honest here.

I judged those crazy parents and their crazy kids and vowed I'd NEVER be a parent like that. My kids are going to be perfect is what I'd tell myself. (And they are! Don't get me wrong. At least I was right about that.)

I bet if we are all honest, we can all say we judge how others do things to some degree. Come on...be honest. :-)

My kids would never eat that processed crap they sell at the store.

And yet they did. My motto became whatever they'll eat is wonderful, just eat!

My kids would never throw a tantrum like THOSE kids in the middle of the store.

And they have. Thankfully it was just once that I remember, which is still pretty good considering that we have three potential time bombs on our hands. We are fortunate that they are pretty decently behaved in public.

There are a few more gems that I vowed never to do. I have of course seen the cold, sometimes harsh light of reality. With kids, it all sort of becomes fair game. You just do what you gotta do.

I laugh in the face of the old me!

Take bribery for instance. The pre kids me vowed I'd never bribe my kids. Oh, no. My little angels would just do whatever I asked out of the goodness of their hearts. We wouldn't need bribery. For a while, I didn't. But I didn't realize how EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT bribery is in the parent's arsenal of tricks. Once I learned that, it crept in ever so slowly.

Eat all your sandwich, and I'll give you more chips.

If you're very good, then we can go to the store.

You know, stuff like that.

That is until our family met our biggest foe thus far...........

The Potty. (I imagine "dum, dum, dummmmm" playing in the background every time I hear that word. Potty. There it went again. Did you hear it?)

Potty training has been quite the experience. The boys got their first potties over a year ago. I was all bight eyed and optimistic that the boys would potty train easily. Ha. For the longest time, neither boy wanted anywhere near the potty for anything other than storing their cars in them.

Then the bribery started.

Sit on the potty for 10 seconds and you get some jellybeans. Okay, that worked, but the boys would only do said sitting with all of their clothes on, which as I am sure you are aware DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF SITTING ON THE POTTY. Still, I soldiered on, wanting them to at least get over their fear.

Santa was kind enough to bring them some undies in their stockings this last Christmas.

The boys would have none of that. Sigh.

Then I got all professional and went all teachery. I broke out the charts. I moved to the big guns. Pee on the potty and get jellybeans AND a sticker! 5 stickers and YOU GET A PRIZE!

The boys insisted that mommy and daddy got a chart too. Ok, no problem. Except only mommy and daddy ever got any stickers. We were earning prizes left and right.

The boys?

Not so much.

They stopped being interested in the jellybeans. No one had yet earned a sticker. And no, there was no pee in the potty from them either.

Today, I got smart. I went for the cannon. Pee or poop on the potty and get a matchbox car. Ja.son heard that, and his interest was definitely peaked. When I pulled out the cars for him to look at, I had him.

He got on the potty. Nothing. He admired the cars he wanted. Nothing. I gave him TWO glasses of water. Nothing. I turned on the water. Nothing.

He was done and wanted down. He also cried and threw a fit because he didn't get his car. Off he went to console himself in the living room. Not ten seconds later, he started again with I want a caaaaaaarrrrrrr!!!! I asked him if he needed to get on the potty.

Why yes, yes he did!

"Here it comes!" he said. Voila! He earned a car! He earned a sticker! He asked for some jellybeans, so I threw that in there, too! Woohoo!

He later added another sticker for pooping in the potty after this!

Now, I am a smart girl. I can see that this getting a matchbox car every time you get on the potty is going to get expensive. But you know what, I'm not thinking about that right now.

My boy is finally peeing on the potty. That is what matters here! (And woohoo! One less diaper to change. Yippee!)

---

Part 2 (reposted from the family blog)

So.

The little man is smart, see. He figured out my game. He used the potty like a CHAMP until he had "earned" all of the cars that he liked. And then...nothing. He could not/would not be persuaded to get back on that potty if his life depended on it.

Undies were out of vogue. You'd think that pull ups had turned into some sort of toxic waste if you heard him bellow.

I worried I was going to do more harm than good, (plus I went back to work), so I dropped it.

Mommy - 0
Ja.son - 1

Touché, little man. Touché.

If there's one thing I know, though, it's that I am smarter than a 3 year old. I am going to beat him at his own game. Think he can play me, does he? Oh yeah?

Off to Target we went. I let the boy pick his favorite (cheap) cars. I let him hold them while we were in the store. I let him carry them in his lap on the way home. I let him bring them into the house. Then I took them away. Ahem.

Crying ensued. I told him he could have them back, one at a time, when he used the potty.

His reply? "But I need more pee pee to get my cars. I don't have enough!"

That boy has been on the potty left and right since we got home.

Lol.

Friday Night Leftovers - Another Saturday Edition

  • So. I started back to work on Thursday. There was drama with the adults. There is drama with the students. I had so much crap to do that I couldn't even figure out how to get started. I literally walked around in a circle looking from one thing to the next and couldn't get myself to do any of it.
  • I went home tired.
  • Friday was the same.
  • Found out that much of what I had worked hard completing for the leadership team before I left had been vetoed by the staff because the leadership team didn't do what they should have when presenting the plans to staff. (We are a program improvement school and have government take over looming in the distance if we don't shape up. We could have, but the 8 or so nay sayers we allowed to "win" with their complaints once again so we have to start from scratch. PISSES ME OFF.)
  • Also found out that the staff royally ticked off our district office because they couldn't get their shit together. I just know that we are in for a rotten year next year. Our district office is like that. Why can no one else make the connection? Idiots. Sigh.
  • Oh, and the woman who said those awful things to me was in the center of the drama. Surprise, right? I want to smack her every time I see her face.
  • Friday's tired laughed in the face of Thursday's tired.
  • My husband is seriously annoying me. I don't understand why every single time I am in the shower he has to turn on the water and take all my hot water. It never fails. Doing that when your wife is super tired and cranky is a sure fire way to piss her off, just saying.
  • Plus, we are both working now, buddy. I don't care if it is "only" for 6 days. Do some of the damn housework, too, and stop leaving all of it for me. If you don't start helping, the house is going to stay exactly as it is until I do get out of work. I hope you like paper plates and dust bunnies. Ahem.
  • Writing a post a day on the boys' blog is hard. I have 9 posts left to get to the end of the challenge. Thank. God.
  • I do have $20 of Ko.hl's cash to go spend (Ko.hl's cash is sort of like a rebate you get when you spend a certain amount of money at the store, only you have to spend the "cash" on a different day. If you don't spend within the time frame they give you, you lose the money.) I think a little retail therapy might lighten my mood.
  • Too bad Ta.rg.et doesn't do something like that. I drop money in Ta.rg.et like there is no tomorrow. I'd always have extra "cash" from there. Seeing how I spend money in there anyway, I doubt I could make them implement my idea.
  • Did I ever tell you that I own 2 shares from Ta.rg.et? Is.aac bought me a share for our first anniversary (it's the paper anniversary). The next year it split. It cracks me up that I get all of the info from corporate, including a ballot to vote for their board, and all I have is 2 shares.
  • Okay, I guess that's it.
Stop by Danifred's to see what everyone else is having had for leftovers. :-)

Started Back to Work Today

Does this tell you how it went?

And that was only the first serving.

Yeah.

It was that fun. Thank GOD there's only 5 days left.

There's a much better picture to look at on the boys' blog if you're interested.

Lost My Voice

My coworker's quote was actually that she was "happy I was getting the chance to parent a normal child after dealing with special needs children." Couple that with the "I'm not sure if you're meant to be the mother to your own children or just your students" jewel said two weeks after my second miscarriage, and well, she is NOT my favorite person.

My brain says I need to just forget about her and what she said. I don't even like her, why am I still thinking about it?

My heart is wondering if those words didn't hurt me so much because they put a mirror up to my own feelings. Maybe I feel that way, too.

Do I?

Was my drive to have another baby so intense because I somehow wanted to be normal? Was I trying to replace my boys? Does that mean that I am unconsciously putting too much pressure on Jack to be "normal?"

And if I do feel that way, what exactly does that say about me? My love for them?

Then again, I wonder if it is so horrible to want the chance to experience normal. Does that desire to be just like everyone else imply that I am not satisfied with my boys? My life?

Sigh.

I've been stuck in a loop of these thoughts and worry. They play into the insecurities and doubt that always seem to be just below the surface of my consciousness, causing me to lose my voice. It's like I am afraid that whatever I say will somehow be wrong--so I say nothing at all.

It hasn't been pleasant.

Man do I miss the days when I was confident and carefree.

It doesn't help that I go back to work in two days. I have decided that I will try my best to avoid the bitchy coworker. It will be hard, though. Her class is directly across from mine.

Friday Night Leftovers

  • Today is the last day of eye drops. Hallelujah! On the good days, it was horrible. On the bad days, it was Ja.son trying to pull me off of Sh.awn because I was hurting him.
  • Which, in a sense, seeing Ja.son come to Sh.awn's aid was super sweet. Except it made eye drops that much harder. Sigh. I'm telling you his eyes are steel traps.
  • I did try Amy's suggestion. I had actually done it by accident right before she left her comment, but I was a little unsure of whether it went IN to his eyes in the end. I tried it again after her encouragement and it worked two more times. THEN, the boy got smart on me. I'd drop, he'd not open, and then he'd manage to wipe the damn things out of his eyes before the drops would go in.
  • Anyway, the drops are done as of tonight. 2 more to go. (Did I say that already? I am so happy about this, can you tell?) His eyes look pretty awesome, too. There's not a whole lot of redness left and they are super, super straight! Whoot! (I am trying not to think of the statistics that state that often preemies will need revisions for this surgery. Because, you know, we are DONE with surgeries.)
  • It is totally annoying me that I am writing fragments here, but I am too lazy to go back and fix them all. Forgive me. Or not. Whatever. (I am tired and snarky today. Sorry.)
  • This has been a rough week! The boys have been rotten. Something is up, but I can't figure out what it is. I know they have had some bored moments (still trying to find my groove with this parenting three thing), but that shouldn't account for all of this...rottenness. Is it just them being three?
  • Jack is eating at least every two hours again. He will eat no more than two ounces during the day. At night he'll eat two 4 ounce bottles. WTF? I think Is.aac may have broke him while he was "in charge" of Jack after the surgery. I am mostly kidding, but dude... I may be losing my mind. Growth spurt?
  • I went to work last week to do some certification stuff for a program I coordinate. While I was there, someone said something to me that still stings. I've been trying to get it out in a post, but I am having trouble even doing that. She said something along the lines of her being glad that I get the chance to raise a "normal" child. Ugh. It still brings tears to my eyes...
Stop by Danifred's to see more Leftovers.

Mostly Wordless Wednesday

Doesn't this make it look like he has way too much on his mind? The hand at the temple...the furrowed brow...it all crack me up!

Any guesses as to what he's thinking? Bonus points if you can come up with a funny caption!
