A Roller Coaster of Emotions

I am still having trouble putting my feelings here. I don't know why. I often think of what I want to say and come here with every intention of writing, but I just don't. It is the strangest thing and something I can't quite figure out.

This past week has been a roller coaster of emotions. This was the final week of school--at last. The last days of school are always a whirlwind of events. There is massive grading, cleaning, promotion practice, and finishing up the end of the year. It is crazy.

We had some horrible news, though, when we found out that one of our students was stabbed by a family member and passed away last Monday. While she wasn't a student in my class, something like this shakes the entire school--the entire district for that matter. The saddest part was that it never should have happened. Warning signs were blaring all around the girl's family that this particular family member was not well. No one listened. Now an innocent young girl is dead. Killed in her sleep. She was eleven. It was so senseless and it breaks my heart.

A memorial fund has been set up to help the family pay for funeral and burial costs.

Hopefully the service will be next week.

Sometimes I forget that things like this happen in the world every day.

Oh Stacie,
I'm so sorry that this is happening to your school community. The problem, of course is the tendency to blame yourselves even though you KNOW it isn't any of your faults. I see every day at work how this safety net system we have doesn't work and it makes me sick too. We can only do so much, unfortunately. Hang in there...
