Ja.son pre-op, just after he took his little cocktail. He is quite loopy here. (Notice his right eye is turned. They alternate turning in, which meant his surgery was bilateral.) I look like shit here. I had only had an hour and half of sleep because of the mom drama. His recovery cubicle was the exact same one I had for my surgery. He had the same nurse, too. (She remembered me...or at least my hives. lol. She said she was worried about me. Aw shucks.)

They let me get into the bed with him to hold him. He slept on me like that while the anesthetic was wearing off. Well, he slept when he wasn't screaming or violently thrashing around trying to hurt me. He became pretty violent from the drugs.

Such a sweetie pie in this photo. It was sort of like the calm before the storm. (Is it strange that we took pictures of this?)
They let us leave after about an hour.
Yesterday afternoon with Ja.son was beyond horrible. It didn't matter what we did, it wasn't right. He screamed for hours and was generally inconsolable for the entire day. I am not kidding. I couldn't talk--or be quiet. I couldn't move. I couldn't leave his sight. Awful. It took both of us to hold him down and prevent him from hurting himself at times. (It was scary, too.)Thankfully, he seems to be in a better mood today. He even did his therapy!
Note to self: Anesthesia and my two year old = a bad combination, that is for sure.

My mom: the Monday drama
My mom is now able to open her eyes, but she is still so dizzy she can't get herself out of bed without help. They gave her zofran, ativan, and an anti dizziness medication. The meds only have a limited effect on her symptoms so far. The ER doctor diagnosed her with positional vertigo.
It started on Monday at 4:19 pm. She was sitting on the floor with the boys and moved her head just so. She was immediately nauseous and her eyes started to bother her. She crawled to the phone (about 30 feet) and called me at work. What time was I coming home wanted to know. Every one's fine she assured me but she wanted me to come home.
I got there to find her sitting on the floor by the phone holding her head. I asked her what was wrong. She told me she was dizzy and nauseated. She said that one moment she was fine, but the next she was dizzy and couldn't open her eyes.
Needless to say, I freaked the fuck out. Made her smile at me. She did. In my head I was playing all of the scenarios...was it a stroke?...oh, God, don't let it be a stroke...I have to watch her smile again...what if this had happened and I was nowhere near?...what am I going to do with the boys?...
I tried to get her up to my car to take her to the ER. She couldn't do it and sort of collapsed on floor. Then she started vomiting.
Ja.son started crying hysterically. Sh.awn then started crying because Ja.son was crying.
I freaked the fuck out even more and called 911.
Fast forward 10ish hours, after blood work, a CT scan, a MRI, and a lot of waiting later and she was discharged. Got her home at 2:45 am. You know the rest.

My mom is my childcare. Both Is.aac and I were out on Tuesday. I went to work today while Is.aac stayed home with the boys. Tomorrow we'll switch. I don't know what we'll do on Friday. Sadly, we don't have a plan B as far as childcare goes.

Wednesday's drama:
My pal, IB, came back today. It is most unpleasant to have to go to the restroom but not be able to leave the room. Most unpleasant. The second that bell would ring would be my cue to RUN to the bathroom. I may have shoved people out of the way in my haste. Maybe. Probably.
I think I am feeling better. Can't be much left in me at this point anyway. (sorry about the tmi)
---
More Wednesday drama:
I just found out today that as of September 30th, my district will no longer be using my HMO provider.
I am hyperventilating here.
In our situation, our insurance provider has done everything we've asked it to with relatively zero issues. For all the medical issues we've had over the last few years (NICU, surgeries, etc), we've payed either the $25 copay for dr. visits or $250 co-pay for hospital stays. That is it.
And now?
Now I can either change us to PPO, which I fear would break us financially, or use one of two other insurance providers for HMO. The crappy possibilities are going to keep me up at night, I am sure.
The special open season for those affected ends in two weeks.
---
I have hives all over my hands. They itch like crazy. Picture me using an old wire brush to scratch them with...um, yeah. I am afraid to take benadryl because I am not really sure if it will help or just make them worse.
---
Oh, and the dentist called to remind me that I had an extraction scheduled for tomorrow. Needless to say, I cancelled. I think I need all the wisdom I can get at this point.
---
I am ready for Thursday to be a nice quiet day full of lots of rest. I think I am all drama'd out, thank you very much.
*Sorry about the curse words. I usually don't use them. But lately, they just seem so appropriate.

Holy hell, what a week! Here's hoping that's enough drama for a very long time :)
Sounds like .... uh ... fun?
Versed does that to little kids though. Ask me how I know. Uh-huh!
I'm glad everyone is one the mend.
Damn hon, it really has been a crappy few days. I hope today is much calmer. I hope your mom feels 100% soon. I hope the munchkin continues to heal. And, I hope you can figure out a decent insurance alternative.
I can't imagine how physically and emotionally drained you are.
Does your mom have a follow up with her regular doctor?
I definitely think the dentist can wait, you can only handle so much at once, woman.
Hoping things start improving quickly and that you can figure out childcare.
I would probably question your sanity if you didn't curse :)
I am telling you. That positional vertigo can be a killer. I only had a mild attack (it sounds like) and I thought I was going nto die. It's like getting the spins from a SERIOUS drunk. You can't stop or focus to get the spins to stop.
There is some kind of therapy that they are starting. I'll send you the link.
Hope Jason feels better today. I'm so sorry this year seems like a terrible start.
Big yikes.
Yup. that is all I got.
Cause.
WOWSERS.
When shit hits the fan for you it really hits hard.
Hugs. Wish we lived closer.
I could be there for you and not just in the virtual world of Blog land.
BTW I love the cuddle pictures.
omg Stacie what an unbelievable few days this has been for you all!!! I am so so so so happy that Jason did well and I have to say those pictures are just so sweet. The one of you holding him post op and kissing him is so touching and says so much :) Sorry about the recovery drama though- that sounds like hell to have experienced but glad he's doing better now.
Happy about mom doing better too- can't imagine how scary and stressed out you were. Throw in some IB, hives and ripping your teeth out of your skull and you win the SHITTIEST DAY award (have to say I'm jealous of THAT award!)AND you just had your OWN surgery extravaganza! JEEEEZ!
Praying for no more drama and just a lot of.....NOTHING to come your way!!!
((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))
HOLY SHIT. Hang in there. JUST HANG IN THERE.
hi there,
i am so sorry that you are dealing with all of this stress, but so glad to hear that the surgery went well and your boy is doing much better today.
regarding your mom, i had to deal dizziness issues in the past and i want you to know that it did go away. not sure if your mom's docto thinks she is a candidate for physical therapy, but there are specific therapies to retrain the brain and stabilize the dizziness.
an aside to all of this...i don't really 'know' you, but have read your blog for sometime. and i think you are an AMAZING family. you are one of the strongest women i know and this trying time will pass and it will be back to happy, calm, restful days. i know it.
Thanks, guys. I am afraid to write this, but things are looking better all around today. (knock, knock, knock...patooey, patooey) My mom got herself to a chair and sat for a couple of hours. Ja.son is...pissy, but better. I slept in, too.
Yeah!
I would say you definitely earned a chill out day.
What a week!
And may I also say that those pics of you and Jason are absolutely adorable.
So glad he is feeling better. And your mom too.
Carrie
Holy crap, that's one awful week. Here's hoping things get better for the weekend. *hugs*
Sorry you are having to go through so much rotten stuff at the moment.
Swear as much as you need to!
I'm so sorry you've had such a terrible week! How scary about your mom and little man. I wish them both a speedy recovery and some drama free years!
Sending you lots of love!
*HUGS*
Oh honey, I'm so sorry. It's no help, but I wish I could help - babysit, bring over the wine, anything.
Holy crap what a week. I'm sorry I hope for your sake the coming days are drama free and less stressful for you.
Sorry I wasn't here for you - I've been MIA online lately.
I had a very similar experience with Jim when we had his ear tubes put in - holding him on the table while they put him to sleep is a very vivid and not too nice memory for me. Then again, I'm glad he had his Mommy with him for something so scary. Sometimes being Mommy is the hardest of all things.
I am SOOOOO glad to see how great J's eyes are doing!! WOW! Sure, they are a bit red, but the improvement is amazing!
Hoping the drama calms a little for you and the boys for a while.
Hugs.
