We've Added to the Family!

I went to the RE for my follow-up appointment on Thursday. The good news is that I am healing nicely (except for a nice little rash around my belly button from the stitches!). I get to proceed with a medicated cycle once AF arrives. I have more to write on this topic and pictures to share soon.

---

I have told you before that I am not good at waiting. This has its good merits, because damn my house is getting cleaned by a mad woman with nothing else to do, and its bad points. I get all these ideas...and well, I have desire to distract myself so I carry them out.

Yesterday, we added to our family. I can't bring a baby into the house through me? No problem. I'll go and seek out other "babies" until I can.

I am freaking sick.

Anyway, back to the new additions. We now have quads! Well, maybe they should be considered twins with a mother and a father? Or maybe they are all siblings? Whatever. We got four new fish. They are darn cute, too.

Meet John, Paul, George, and Ringo. The Fab Four now reside at my house.

We headed out to the pet store yesterday afternoon with the intention of picking up a bowl and a few fish for the boys. Ja.son has a new obsession with all things animal, and if Sh.awn continues the pattern he's been on lately, his obsession with animals will follow within a few weeks. So, we thought why not. It is a relatively inexpensive addition to our budget, right? We went for it.

We were off to the pet store, wide eyed with the thrill of the hunt. We had few expectations. We'd get fish. We knew we'd also get the chance to look at some of the small animals while we were there, too. A win win.

Right off the bat, the hamsters and the snakes were big hits with our younguns. Score for me! I had a good idea! Things took a turn downhill once we left the small critters and moved to the aquatic area. The boys were impressed with the water turtles, too. But the fish were apparently not that great. We couldn't get the boys to even hardly look at them.

We picked out a tank with a lid to keep the cats out. Ja.son picked out pink and blue (but mostly pink) rocks for the bottom. Sh.awn picked out a pink flower. (I have no idea why everything is pink. Real men love pink, right?) Is.aac picked out some natural colored rocks to offset all the pink, and we were off. We rescued four little feeder fish. I let the clerk choose which ones we got. I just told him to choose four that would likely still be alive in the morning. (So far, so good on that one. Everyone is still alive and swimming.)

$69.00 later, Is.aac and I were sitting in the car, shell shocked and wondering what the fuck?

I looked at the receipt. The fish were $0.52.

We bought $68.48 worth of shit for $0.52 worth of fish. Oh hell, no. Then he piped in with a whole commentary about how I should have sent him to the pet store on his own and he'd have us all set up with the whole deal for under $20.

Sigh. Back into the store I went.

I returned the $44!!!! fish tank set up we purchased by accident (apparently it was in the wrong place, so what we thought was the price was definitely not) and got a the one that we should have gotten for the price we thought we were paying, which I like even better than the first one. Then I had to lie to the stupid clerks who tried to badger me into getting the bigger tank because the fish! need! a! gallon! of! water! per! fish!, technically making us need a 5 gallon tank for the four freaking feeder fish. (Hell, no! I told them we have another tank at home--not. You can't tell me that those hundreds of little feeder fish in that 50 gallon tank were getting that same one to one gallon ratio, so come on. As it is, these fish have been elevated from the projects of the fish world into a pretty damn fine condo in the suburbs. They should be happy.) Anyway, I got my money back, changed the tanks, and hightailed it out of there before even more money tried to fall out of my pockets into their cash register.

Is.aac was happier. The boys could have cared less--they were still playing with the rocks and the flower.

At home, we set up the tank.

And now? They boys keep asking to see and smell the pretty pink flower and could care less about the fish. I am not even sure they really even know that the fish are in the tank with the flower. Had I known that originally, I could have sent Is.aac out to get the stupid flower, put it into a reptile tank, and left it at that.

Jeez.

I like them, though, so it is all good in the long run.

**Is.aac thinks they are a mock up of our family. One of them is a dark burnt orange with dark fins, aka Is.aac. Another is white with bright gold spots, ala me. The other two are pretty similar in size and coloring--lighter than the dark fish and darker than the white fish. They have dark splotches on their heads, which Is.aac says they represents shunts because one has one splotch and the other has two. Strange, huh?

Stacie, I just want you to know that each of those fish can grow to a full 12inchs in length and can live for 22 YEARS!!!!!(as in you would need at least a 55gallon tank for 2 of them) Type in "common goldfish"..

That would be the reason the folks at the store wanted you to get something bigger for them ;-)

Good luck on your fish experience...

Hey, that's awesome. Even if the boys aren't on board quite yet :) They'll learn to love them.

Good luck with the new babies. I hope they don't keep you up ;-)

ahh - so glad you're healing well (lest the rash - but could we except you to do it without a rash or something just to keep the docs and your readers on their toes - i think not!!) --- want to hear more about the medicated cycle - are you referring to IVF or are you going to try an IUI medicated? good luck - and please keep us posted.

now - the fish.
good for you - i hope you are all very happy - althoug when i read the term "fab 4" i thought of your boys and your 2 new in the not too distant future twins!! hmmm hopeful thinking on my part -- for you!
as for me - i am off to clean the TADPOLE tank - we were gifted 6 tadpole eggs and they have turned into little critters - 2 of which actually have legs sprouting -- it's been about 3 1/2 weeks......

we need to go get a larger tank as they have really grown and will soon need space to have a giant rock so they can get out of the water and breathe air.
