Double Eek!

Eek! Slight panic attack here. The boys' "big" party with family and friends is on Saturday at a local park. 60% chance of rain has been forcasted. With our luck, that 60% chance will turn into 100% at about the time said party is set to begin. We've invited about 45 guests, not expecting everyone to come. It is a Saturday, and we unfortunately gave fairly short notice. Apparently these people don't have anything else to do this weekend because they ALL are coming. Good Lord! What am I going to do?

I have been frantically cleaning my house as a plan B. I have thought about a restaurant or some place else, but finances are tight as it is, so that is out. I so didn't want to have the party here for just this reason.

Plus Is.aac is being a royal pain in my ass. What is it with men and cleaning? I swear, if I see him just standing around twiddling his thumbs one more time, you're going to read about us in the paper. Trust me, it won't be pretty. Can't he see that I am freaking here? (the answer is no. he can't see that. that is our problem.)

And tomorrow--today--is Halloween. There goes a good portion of my evening for getting ready. Double eek!

I do fully appreciate how wonderful it is to have this kind of crisis. It sure does beat the other kind! :-)

The same thing happened at our 1st... Our house is about 1050sq ft... So, I totally understand!

We borrowed a little tent to put right out the back... Some of the adults stood out their and talked. We had the living room baby gated and just had some toys in there. I put away all the toys with little pieces and just kept out some bigger things.

I had food stuff prepared so I didn't have to do anything. I had a baby snack tray... I used a veggie tray and put goldfish, cheerios, cheese cubes, quarter grapes, crackers, etc in the compartments.

Everyone ended up having a great time! It was stressful thinking about it, but it all went smooth.

Good luck to you! People are coming to celebrate your kids, not to critique your house. ;) Hope it goes smooth!

I should say that I am lucky in the husband cleaning dept. He wont EVER clean, but when guests are set to arrive, the perfectionist side of him comes out and whoa!! I'm thinking of getting a house keeper in to help us out the day prior to the part, so that way the house will look like it's always that clean... I cant wait to see pictures!

My hubby is allergic to cleaning too. He can never seem to find the garbage can and thinks that empty beer bottles are supposed to go on the counter. I was exhausted for two days after the big party that we had for the kids. The one for the family was just at a local restaurant with my parents and grandmother. The big party was at least 40 people and we held it at the firehouse. The hubby was more intersted in hanging out with his friends than helping me with the kids. I will NEVER hold another party that big for the kids again....

Ah,hell, does that bring back memories. Not to be the voice of doom and gloom, but this won't be the last time either. Something always goes wacky with kid's birthday parties - I don't know what it is.

We lived in a one bedroom duplex until I was five months pregnant with my third, and the birthday scramble always sucked.

And for some reason, men just DO NOT get it.

Sorry. Am I being negative?

Rent or borrow those tarps. You know...the ones that you take camping, or to the beach. Or to put over a car. Get several that people can take refuge under if it starts raining. With a 60 % chance, chances are, it will only rain on and off again. This way you can enjoy the day, but take safe haven if it does come down.

Good luck !

Okay, I'm back, in an attempt to try to offer some helpful suggestions instead of helping you throw Isaac under the bus. Or backing it over him.

Anyway...

First - and this is important, okay?- no one will give a rat's behind about how your house looks. Or what you serve foodwise. They will only care about the two adorable birthday boys. You will sort of be relegated to chopped liver status tomorrow - and you'll probably be just fine with that.

(Please don't have to learn this like I did. I slaved and cleaned and cooked from scratch, and people absent mindedly ate pringles from a can and stepped over laundry piles. I swear it's true).

I was going to add a second thing, but I really think the first one should work. You just need to enjoy the day. You've worked so hard for it.

Ha :D The day of our triplets' first birthday, Hurricane Ike came through and wreaked havoc. Our party was due to be outside at a local park. I moved it inside to the faculty lounge at my school the night before, and it's a really good thing that I did that! It turned out fine. Sure, it would have been nice to be outside, but then we wouldn't have had the party at all! Good luck--and the pictures are SO cute :D

Well. BEAUTIFUL birthday pics, by the way. It's Saturday night here .... so Saturday morning there. I am sending you blue skies and a gentle breeze ...... NOW.

Did you get it?

My birthday pressies for the boys are way late. Sorry.
Apparently I should post cake, not pressies anyway!!

Hope Isaac cleaned a bit, HA.

I hope the weather cooperates for you today. I know that I wouldn't want that many people in my house. You'll clean for them to be there but end up cleaning even more after everyone leaves.

The weather was good here most of the day - hoping it held out for you, too! I am not surprised that 45 people would drop everything to come to such a special an occasion as this birthday!!

Thanks for the good vibes, everyone.

Trish--thanks for the good wishes. What is it about men? Ha!

Courtney--our house is only 1250sq ft! It's large enough for us, but it seems so small with all those people here!

Maya--a housekeeper is a great idea! That should really help because the cleaning is what killed me for this.

M2MM--I like that term "allergic to cleaning". I am going to have to use it on him!

RC--you're never doom and gloom! You didn't throw Is.aac under the bus, either. He did that all by himself!

K--we did get a tarp, but of course didn't use it because it stopped raining. Is.aac ended up BBQing under it.

ES--thanks for the good wishes!

Jody--a hurricane! Whoa. That would have thrown me over the edge. Glad everything turned out okay.

TC--I think your wish worked. The party was clear! The boys do like their cake (usually) :-)

Carrie--I hate cleaning up, especially after working so hard to clean it before the people come!

M2C--Did you get any of the heavy morning rain? Maybe it was just the areas north? You're right. THis was a special occasion! I had one person tell me today that they feel more connected to the boys than they probably would have because she reads the boys' blog. Never really thought of it that way, I guess!
