He looks pretty content to do it himself. I guess he figures he is a big boy now.
This is a torture therapy technique we're using to force Sh.awn to use his right arm. He has a tendency to use his left and leave his right arm without a purpose. He can use the right hand and arm, especially when I restrain his left arm, but won't unless forced. Hence, the torture therapy. From what I can gather from all of the "experts", this stems from all of the swelling he had on an optical nerve that runs along the side of his right eye. It is extremely sensitive to pressure, and we all know there was a lot of pressure in there for much too long of a time. Anyway, this nerve sort of blurred his vision from his right eye and made it hard for him to see things clearly on his right side (unless he turned his head). To compensate, Sh.awn focused on things to his left and got used to using only his left hand for things. Who wouldn't? But, now that it is becoming evident that his eye issues are clearing up, and he is used to using only the left, we are undergoing therapy.
He doesn't look like it bothers him too much in this picture, but let me tell you, he gets royally pissed when I do this to him. Royally. Pissed. (my boy has quite the temper!)
Here is Ja.son doing a long awaited milestone...holding his own freaking bottle. My kid had me snowed into thinking he couldn't do it. Instead, I think he just decided that he'd let me do it so he could just be lazy. (note to self--watch for this type of behavior in the future. your boys will try to take advantage when given the chance.)
And because Sh.awn is not the only one of my children to be tortured daily (at least until he gets used to this), I leave you with Ja.son in his new attire...

Could they have made this helmet any less attractive? I think not. We are getting used to it...slowly.

You torturous mother you! Yeah ok the helmet is not the most attractive thing and must be incredibly irritating for Jason, but it does accentuate his gorgeous cheeks! I'm sure you'll find he'll get used to it quicker than you.
There's a boy in my street who was born with no arms, he wears a crash helmet every day which is covered in drawings and stickers. But that might look a bit harsh on a baby, maybe a cool hat?
has anyone ever told you that you have extremely good-lookin' kids? shawn and jason are so handsome. btw, i know this is probably not what you want to hear but i think the helmet is kinda cute. i hope the therapy gets easier for all of you soon! :)
just a suggestion... do you have a favorite football team? i think it would be really cool to get the hemet spraypainted to look like a real football helmet. just an idea. :)

I can't help it ... I think helmets look so darn cute on kids! I just saw a baby in Babies R Us this week (all decorated) and he was as happy as could be ... Don't worry, he will get used to it. Color it up, and it will be all good!
And my kids NEVER held their own bottles. NEVER. We stopped bottles at 13 months, and I had to hold them the whole freaking time. My kids are obviously very lazy.

Yeah the helmet is just plain old boring- but nothing some Sharpee markers and creative hands can't handle :) Make a project out of it! Can you cover it in paper mache or something cute? He still looks like a doll- helmet or no helmet he is still squishable :) And congrats on holding your own bottle Jason!!!!!
Both of your boys are so adorable. You are doing such a great job with them. You should be proud of yourself.
And Jason looks so cute with his little helmet on. I know you don't like it but keep telling yourself 'it's temporary'. And until the 3-6 months is up, I agree with Topcat: PIMP THAT HELMET OUT!

I still think the helmet is sort of cute..
The bound arm bothers me more.. Probably because Robbie hates to have his arms bound with a fiery passion so I KNOW he'd be pissed about that.

I agree with Topcat - you need to PIMP that helmet out. That will make it easier to look at and not think about bad stuff.
