I generally have the same lunch every day. This is partly because my lack of extra time in the mornings. Having the same thing definitely makes lunch making a breeze. It is also because I am not, nor have I ever been, an adventurous eater. I do, however, have different orders in which I eat my lunch depending on how my day is going.
Bad day = dessert first. For the bad days, clearly there is a need for a pick me up and dessert is certainly a start. The closer we get to the end of the school year, the more often I indulge in dessert first thing.
Okay/normal day = sandwich first. I tend to start with the sustenance to give my stomach something to do. The benefit it twofold: 1) I get to stop that incessant grumbling my stomach starts to make approximately 20 minutes before the bell rings for lunch, and 2) it gives me a base so I can slow down enough to talk to colleagues and enjoy the lunch break.
After I start, my eating guideline dictates that I completely finish one food before I eat another. I also try my hardest not to let my foods touch. If I could, I'd even go so far as to serve myself one thing at a time and eat it before returning for a serving of something else.
My husband thinks this is insane. (Maybe it is insane, but it's my insanity.)
While I am content to eat the same things over and over, he's more of a different food everyday for the rest of his life if he could swing it kind of person.
I read somewhere (sadly, I couldn't find the article) that those who eat the same things when out at restaurants are generally more content in life. The premise was that those who constantly seek to try new things do so because they are always after something more or better. Sticking to the tried and true meals you love is akin to being satisfied with what you have. It's an interesting thought, I guess.
So what food quirks do you have? Do you do anything as crazy as I do?

Ha -- quirk is a kind word for my eating habits :-) I allow myself one meal of Special K per day. It's my comfort food. On a bad day, I allow myself two meals. On a really bad day, I would allow myself all three.
I tend to eat the same thing over and over again for years, and then switch. In graduate school, it was a vegetable sandwich. As in, for years I ate a vegetable sandwich, usually for at least two meals (it had tofu in it as protein). Now it's Special K.
And I not only get the same thing at a restaurant, but this weekend, I went to a restaurant and ordered the burrito the way I used to order the burrito back when I didn't eat black beans just so it would taste as it did back when I was in graduate school. Even though I now love black beans.
I like that you change up the order. That it becomes your barometer of how things are going.
I can eat the same thing every day also. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. However, I don't mind mixing my food. In fact, I like to! Lol
Hi from ICLW. I used to only eat just one thing at a time on my plate until people started to stare at me. Then they would question as to why I do that. It was just easier to conform. I do tend to order the same thing each time I go to a certain restaurant.
I hate when my food touches. Being a preschool teacher was the best because we had the plates with the sections in it. None of the food ever touched and no one had to know I was a little crazy!
Here via ICLW. I, too, eat the same things over and over again. Sometimes I branch out, but I'm whats called a "super taster" meaning my taste buds are really sensitive. Anything with a lot of flavour or spice over powers me and I can't eat it. So I stick with what I know I can eat. I enjoy the foods I like so much, I don't see why I should be trying new stuff every time. I want to enjoy my meal, and I know I like what I know I like! Lol.
You know, it really depends for me. Sometimes I can eat the same thing over and over. Other times I need the variety. Not sure if it has anything to do with being contented in general life though.
There are certain foods that have to be eaten certain ways, though. Like you have to stick a fork tine through the hole in penne pasta, you can't jab it. You have to eat candy corn one color at a time.
