Thank you for your comments on my last post. I find this kind of thing fascinating, and it is nice to know I am not alone in my food eating quirkiness. :)
Megan brought up an interesting point in her comment. She said, "There are certain foods that have to be eaten certain ways, though. Like you have to stick a fork tine through the hole in penne pasta, you can't jab it. You have to eat candy corn one color at a time."
Megan, you are so, so right. There are certain foods that must be eaten in certain ways. Let's explore a few of my OCD food eating processes.
M&M/Skittles eating
I'm starting with this one because a friend on FB had a discussion on this, and I'd guess many people have a certain way to eat these. First, I must separate all the candies into groups by color. Then, starting with the group with the most candies, I eat the entire color group by twos until I either no longer have two of the same color or that color is gone. I work my way through the other colors in the same fashion. When all I have left is the remainders in each color group, I'll sometimes pair and eat them. Most often, though, I become generous (ahem) and share with my husband :)
Chocolate covered candies
If at all possible, I must completely eat the chocolate off before I eat the insides. For example, if I am eating a chocolate covered caramel, I eat all the chocolate off of the caramel and then eat the caramel.
Tortilla chips
First I eat all of the unbroken chips. I try to eat them in two bites (I have no idea why) by placing the largest end of the chip in my mouth for the first bite. That generally leaves a fairly small remainder for bite number two.
After all the whole chips are gone, I'll eat the broken chips.
Burritos
With a fork, I open the burrito so I can eat all the insides first. I eat the tortilla last.

Okay, I'm stopping there. I'm sure there are others I could add, but writing those out made me feel crazy enough!
Which foods do you have to eat in a certain way? Come on, there has to be something! ;)

I just read your previous post and this one together...because I am efficient like that! :-)
You eat the same thing every day? Does it not get boring at all?
When I am eating out, I try to focus on starters and dessert rather than the main course, unless there is something of great interest.
Ha! I eat most of the things on your list pretty much the same way. Not sure how or why I started doing so, but it's very true.
How about this one: fries - eat either the shorts or the longs first, usually the shorts. And often this has to be done in twos.
Hun really doesn't like my issue with evens. For instance, I will have two tic-tacs (they're my worst), not just one. And if someone only takes one and won't take a second, I might toss the extra.
I have always eaten fast food apple pies the same way. I love them and now only Burger King has them.
Anyway, I open the pie, use a napkin to scoop out the apple and apple goo until there is hardly any left, then I fold each half in half lengthwise and eat them one at a time.
Actually, I do the same with normal pies too. I scoop out the filling and eat the crust.
I think I have a crust problem.

This is amazing! Of your list here, I don't have any feedback other than M&Ms (or more likely Smarties, which are different here than in the US - they are similar to M&Ms but more colours). I eat them randomly (and likely in a hurry). Once the initial frenzy is over, I group them into colour. I then eat them colour by colour, until I have the same amount of each colour left. Once that's done, I then eat one from each colour over and over, likely in the order of the rainbow, til they're all gone.
You know where my real issues with food lie? On the unfinished plate. I CANNOT stand to look at a plate of food that is finished, but still has food on it. It gives me anxiety. If I can't clear it away myself (like at a restaurant), I have to cover it with my napkin.
Oh and don't get me started on my issues with gristle or any sort of other oddities in meat. I could barf thinking of it and it can derail a perfectly good meal in a hurry.
So there you have it. We're all weird. In fact I'm contemplating leaving this comment anonymously because I should probably be embarrassed about my issues ;)
