A two post kind of day...

----------------------

Congrats to Neenie, who gave birth to her little boy yesterday after 10 weeks of hospital bed rest. She will make an incredible mom, and her little one is a lucky little dude!

--------------

Look out, this will be a husband vent.

He won't be taking the two week paternity leave like he promised. Seems that his work, who pays him far less than he is worth in my opinion, is giving him a hard time about leaving at such a critical time. You know, it is such a surprise that the babies are here and all. It isn't like they had any warning for a few months that they would come home. Stupid people.

Bring a computer to the house and work from home for a few hours a day was a suggestion. No, the programs he needs are networked and they won't supply him with hard copies for a computer.

Modified work schedule? No, that won't work "blah, blah, blah".

Of course, Isaac acts like he hasn't said anything to his work about how totally illegal and unfair it is.

Needless to say, I am royally pissed. This has had us fighting (barely speaking) for a few days now, and I don't see an end in sight. The way I see it, the babies will only be little once. His stupid job will always be there (unfortunately).

Once again, he has chosen work instead of his family. Can you tell that this has been an issue before?

--------------------

On a baby note, the boys snore horribly. I am holding Jason right now as I type, and he is snoring so loud I can hardly think. Shawn is snoring. The cats snore. My husband snores. Ugg. I am surrounded.

The babies are eating like horses. They want to eat every two hours, and I am slowly going insane. I have tried holding out for three+ hours, and they barely eat. And of course, the rediculously priced formula they eat only comes in the little can or in liquid form. The liquid is way too expensive. The little can only lasts for two days. Yikes.

The pediatrician has said they have to eat at least twice their weight in ounces. For Shawn, that would make about 18 ounces a day. It is a good day when he gets there. He still has some issues with feedings. Without the Zan.tac, he would have probably starved to death already. Jason should eat 20 or more ounces a day, and the boy is taking in about 22 and more. I have no idea how much he weighs now. I do know that he is leaving Shawn in the dust in the weight category.

I can't get them to take more than 2 1/2 - 3 ounces a feeding. Jason will sometimes go to 3 1/2 ounces, but that isn't often. Any suggestions on how to get them to eat more at a time?

I totally understand your thoughts on your hubby. Mine is the same way and it has caused many problems here.

As far as eating more, I had the same problem back when my kiddos were your kiddos' age. It was a real "DUH" moment for me. I switched to a bigger nipple flow. Brilliant, eh? It took me months to figure that out. Your little guys might not be ready for that yet, but mine were and they ate like hogs once they didn't have to work so hard for it. If I remember correctly, we went from size 0 and 1 to size 2 nipples. Anyway, just something you might want to try out.

Hmmm. Good question. The NICU put ours on a 4-hour schedule before we took them home. They've stayed on that schedule. I think that's saved our sanity several times.

I think ultimately you'll have to go to a 3 or 4 hour schedule just for sanity reasons. The problem is how you get there...there are two schools of thought...feed on demand and let the babies schedule themselves or drag them onto the schedule yourself. The NICU followed the latter approach, but the problem with that is then that you have to up their volume at the same time and if they're not eating that increased volume then it doesn't work. Hmmm.

Oh--try contacting the formula company. As multiples, the boys are entitled to a pretty decent amount of free formula that the company will mail to your home. Also ask for samples every time you go to your pediatrician.

You know, propping bottles might also make sense to save time. We've been doing it with our three since they came home. Basically the babies just feed themselves, which allows you to do both at once. It's a time saver for sure.

For what it's worth, my DH never took time off either. Of course he lost his job when we moved since he's been home ever since, and when he was working he'd come home at lunch to help feed.

Shannon-we're using size 3 nipples for 3+months. I think I will try the next size. I don't want to drown them or anything, but I'll try almost everything once!

Jody--I already put a call in to the formula company. I have two cases coming in the mail. :-) Plus the pediatrician also gave me a case and said she'll give me another next time I am in.

Is there anyway to try to make them go every 3-4hours? Maybe they'll eat a little more if they are more hungry. is your hubby good at nights though with feedings? My husband only took a few days when they came home from the NICU but he did take one of the night feedings for me so Ididn't complain too much. He also let me sleep first thing when he got home from work too.

Good luck!

your feeding them neosure I assume-which is what my girls were on until I switched them last week (bec of the tummyaches it gave them- we'll see how long that'll last) my girls were going through one a day!
Dont know wjat to tell you about feeding them more- my girls eat at least 4 ounces and want more most of the time. They might be going through a growth spurt, so give them as much as they want when they ask for it- thats what my pediatrician told me.

BTW- What is this free formula you speak of?

I'm sorry that you are having such a hard time.
Remember...stand and unite. :) ha ha Easier said than done.
Maybe Isaac feels like going back to work IS doing something for the babies. In his own thinking it is his way of providing for his family.

I hope you have lots of help.

Good to hear the babies are putting on the weight. or at least trying to :)

Mya, We use Enfamil Enfacare 22 formula. It is like the neosure, but the NICU preferred it and put us on it before we left. The free formula is from the formula manufacturers. They offer multiples clubs for us twin (and more) mommies. I got two free cases. I just contacted the rep in my area. Got her number from the NICU before I left. You might call them and ask for it.

twinboysmom--I try making them wait, but they still won't take more than 2 1/2 to 3 ounces at a feeding. I did get Jason to take 3 1/2 last night (and did a mini celebratory dance at about 4:30 am) but it isn't consistent at all. I feel like I have to feed them every two hours to get their calories in.

And as for the hubby not taking time off of work, it just burns me because I was promised that he would. Then he sort of didn't say anything about it and would go to work. That went on until I was like, hey turkey, what is up. Then he confessed that he didn't think he would take time. It wasn't one of his finer momments.

Ahhhhh, husbands. Can't live with 'em, can't kill 'em.

Just joking. Sort of. :)

I hope he takes some time off in the near future? Maybe take you three on a lovely holiday somewhere, when you can manage travelling with those two precious little guys. I'm still so happy for you that they're out of hospital!!!

I don't have a word to add to your husband rant. Been there. Done that. Still am. Sucks.

I had no idea you could get free formula for multiples. What a great thing!
