Good News! Both boys have been extubated already. Oh thank you, God! We are ecstatic about this. Shawn had his vent removed early this morning, while Jason's was removed a few hours later. Both are now on minimal oxygen support through a cannula. WooHoo! Not too shabby, if I do say so myself, and I do--I am a very proud mommy!
Shawn also had his first feeding. He took an ounce and tolerated it well. They will increase his formula each feeding until he is back up to full feeds. Then they will remove his IV. And then, we go back to the bottle!
Jason is still a little sluggish from his anesthesia. The boys had different anesthesiologists, so I suspect (although haven't confirmed, so I could just be full of it here) that they got a slightly different dosage of meds. When he shows he is a little more awake, they will start him on formula, too.
This has turned into a WONDERFUL day! Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. I do believe they are working!
