These are the latest pictures of the boys. Keep in mind that I am holding them in my arms while I take the picture, so that is why they are always so up close and personal.
This is Jason just after finishing his bottle. There is nothing like a formula induced sleep...
This is Shawn sucking on his pacifier. He absolutely loves that thing!
The hernia operations will be done on Tuesday. There was some talk about maybe not being able to fit both of them in on that day, but I think that they have cleared that up now. (It would be just our luck for them to only have room for one baby that day. We'd have to wait for the following Tues. for the second baby if that happened.)
Depending on the doctor I talk to, there are varying views on how long the recovery time will be. One doctor says that they should be home by the end of the month, and definitely by the end of next month. He is such an optimistic fellow. The other doctor, who happens to be the head of the NICU, thinks that it should be no longer than a week before they get released. My guess it that it will fall between the two estimations, but I am more than willing to be proven wrong. I just want the babies home.
As we get closer to being released, I am now having to jump through a bunch of hoops. I have to be checked off for various things pertaining to caring for the boys. Can I feed them a bottle? Can I change their diaper? Can I bathe them? The whole check off thing is starting to really bother me. Why is it that I must do all of this, when a druggie down in maternity can just pick her baby up and go without proving her skills as a mother? It is more than frustrating for me.
There is one particular nurse who seems to always have the boys when she is working. I don't care for her much. She is the kind of person who is always in everyone's business and is never without something to say. She likes to sit by me while I feed the boys and critique my efforts, especially while I work with Shawn. If I hear, "I do it this way...," from her one more time, I think I am going to explode. Thank you very much, but I do things this way, dammit. (This nurse is the only nurse to do this. The rest of the nurses will pretty much leave us alone and let us just learn what works best with our children.) When I am just cuddling the boys, she also likes to sit there and talk to me about anything that flits through her mind. For a long time, I was pretty good at ignoring her. Now she just bugs me.
"I am so ready to be home with them," is the understatement of the year.

Look at Jasons mouth! Oh my how beautiful are those lips!
I take my hat off to you Stacie, your wait to have those two gorgeous fellows at home has been so long. Nearly there, you've got so much to look forward to, I can't wait.
Thank God for the update! I was checking every 4 minutes like a looney! I cannot believe how these beautiful babies have changed- they have gotten so big and look so strong and healthy!!!! I'm sorry about Tuesday- what a bump to have to deal with but the promising part is that these babies are coming home- whether its a week or a month- they will be home and in your arms for good. THAT IS AMAZING!!!!!
Screw that nasty nurse too- she should be supportive of you not critical. YOU are their mother and you are feeding them. If you were sticking the bottle in their nostrils then I could see the criticism- but she doesnt have to be such a stinkpot...and she shouldnt watch you snuggle and bond either- she should leave you alobne because you deserve this time with them as their mommy...give me this nurses phone number so i can tell her off!
Thanks for the update and the adorable pictures!!!
Hi Stacie, Just checking in from the forum. Your boys are getting cuter by the day! We keep you in our thoughts every day and are hoping for a homecoming SOON! Karen
the boys are so handsome! hoping you get to take them home soon.
They are so cute!! I think I told you before but I miss my preemie babieS!! Hard to believe but it's true! They are all over the place now (22mos) and so crazy! I bought preemie dolls that are their birth length and weight and I have to admit I love just holding those dolls! The pics of your boys bring back so many memories. We had some annoying nurses too. THey'll be home before you know it! One of my boys has the umbillical hernia. It looked pretty weird for a year or so but it looks a lot better now. He loves to shock people by lifting up his shirt and yelling belly button!
I hope they make it home soon. I bet way before the end of next month. Is that doc crazy??
Hi Stacie! The boys are SOOO beautiful! But you don't need me to tell you that :D I love the new pics. They are looking so healthy and they are real big boys now! I really liked the picture of Isaac feeding Jason. DH and I use the same back of the neck hold...I call it the vulcan death grip :D Every family member looks at us weird when we use it, but it's so effective! You guys will be in my thought and prayers on Tuesday, and I hope the boys make a speedy recovery and will come home very soon :D I know it's horrible to admit, but the closer my boys got to coming home the more I hated seeing other babies go home from the NICU. I'd always get teary because I wanted our guys to come home so much. And before I knew it it was our turn to walk out of the NICU as a family, first with one and then with the second and finally with the third :D
The boys are looking so great!! I cant wait for you be blogging about home life with them! Its getting close now!
Oh my goodness Stacie ..... look how big your beautiful boys are now!!!
I can't wait for them to come home too. How annoying is that nurse - I would SO have told her off by now. (But I'm rude like that.)
Thanks for checking in on me lately, too. xoxoxoxoxxoxox
The boys look so chubby! They are really growing so well! I wish the surgery to be quick and easy for the boys. And I hope you all are home together soon!
