All went well at UCLA. It took us F.O.R.E.V.E.R. to get through the day. We left the house at 7:30 am and didn't get back until 2:30 pm. It is only a 54.6 mile drive, but it took us 2 and a half hours to get there, making us late, and forcing us to be at the back of the patient line. Thank goodness they saw us anyway. It would have totally sucked to have to go back another day. I was so wiped out it wasn't funny.

The doctors want the boys to get blood work done to make sure their kidneys are functioning well. Shawn also needs to have one more renal ultra sound to check his kidneys. Assuming that the b.w. comes back clean for both and the ultra sound looks okay (or no worse than it was), Jason has no further follow-up needed and Shawn will just need to be monitored in about 6 months as a precaution. They think the kidney will return to "normal" with no intervention. Yeah!

The nephrologist also said that the NICU was very thorough and that they (our NICU) tended to be pretty cautious. Boy, do I know that! She made it seem like their concerns ended up being pretty minor.

Another bullet dodged.

And...

Shawn gave his first real smiles to Isaac today while we were at UCLA. He is exactly 8 weeks adjusted today. This is a little on the slow side, but according to BabyCenter, not too terribly bad. I cried and cried when I saw him do it. I can't tell you how much that little grin lifted my so very scared heart.

Maybe tomorrow won't be as bad as I fear?
