I feel like I am drowning--I can't seem to get enough air. I can't take much more before I break. Who am I kidding? I am already broken.

My world keeps crumbling away.

He died a little before 1 am. At about that time, I was in the hospital with Shawn, pleading for God to help him, pleading for this to work for him. I was angry. I was screaming in my head that this was so unfair and that I couldn't take it.

Little did I know.

I am so sad that my dad only got to see Shawn sick. He is a different baby already. He isn't smiling yet, but the hint is there. It will come.

But my dad won't see that.

There is still a chance that Shawn will develop more scar tissue and block the holes that were created to help his shunt work. I pray that it doesn't happen and that I get to keep my little boy as he is. I couldn't bare to lose him again. I can't lose someone else.

My mom is struggling. My brothers are struggling. I feel like I am left holding the bag. I have had to do it all so far, and it looks like I will have to continue to make arrangements and settle his estate with little help from them. I understand my mom. They had been married since she was 17. He was all she knew. She is heart broken. I know she will find her way through this at some point, but now she is over come with grief. But my older brothers? I just can't understand why they get to grieve without contributing. Why does everything always seem to fall into my lap?

I haven't been able to really cry. A few tears have managed to escape, especially when I see my mom in tears, but the really big cry that has to happen is nowhere in sight. I suppose it will come when I get the chance to step back a little. I don't see that happening for some time to come.

I am so angry. Why is this happening to the people I love? Why would God do this, especially now. That saying that we only get what we can handle...is crap. I can't handle any of this. I don't want to handle any of this.

I have to anyway.

And it sucks.

Last night I dreamt that I gave you a big, massive hug.

I'm thinking of you a lot, dear Stacie. You are right - that saying is bullsh*t. Sometimes it is all just too hard.

So glad to hear that Shawn is feeling better. My heart aches for your mum ... I really hope those brothers of yours start pulling their weight.

Be gentle with yourself. xoxoxoxox

I don't know how you are pressing forward Stacie. Once again your strength shines through.
I can't help but think that you have the perfect person on your side now. Your dad. The miracles that you receive now will surely be hand delivered.

I'm PRAYING that you will have some comfort and help.
I wish there was more I could do to help.

Dear Stacie, my heart goes out to you and I continue to keep you all in my prayers. It sounds like you're in "survival mode" right now--you're in the heat of the crises doing what needs to be done for your children and your family. I think you're absolutely right that the tears will come when you are no longer in the thick of things every moment of every day. And you are handling it...I hope that you are getting the love and support that you deserve at this time.

There is one thing--at least your dad got to see his grandsons, which is a blessing in itself. It's such a tragedy however that he's no longer here.

One more thing...please please don't feel guilty for not being able to cry yet. It was at least a week after my father died between the time that we got the news and that I was able to cry. I knew what death meant, after all. I think I was in shock, and since we were a military family we had to pack up and leave for the States again pretty much a week after his death. So the whole house was full of people packing us up and getting ready to leave. I tried to focus on remaining strong for my mom. I think that seems ridiculous in retrospect, but I had some idea that my dad wanted me to look out for my mom. Anger is what I felt next, and I spent a lot of time in that state. And I hated and have always hated that phrase that we only get what we can handle. Bullcrap.

Love, Jody

I wish there was something we could lift off your plate. Because this is too much. The layering of grief upon grief is too much.

I've been thinking about you and your family all weekend.

i know you think you can't handle it but look at yourself. You ARE handling it. Maybe not the way you want but you have picked up the pieces for your entire family and you are dealing with everything. Do not be afraid to ask for help. Sometimes its just that people dont know what to do unless they are given step by step instructions (especially guys!!) and we females seem to load everything on our plates and try to be super human. And dont be afraid to ask your doctor for help if you need some meds to get you through it. Re the crying, everyone deals with grief in different ways. When my mum passed suddenly i didnt even cry at her funeral. As Jody said she was angry. I think i'm still angry (6 yrs later) and dont understand why she went so young. You'll never have answers. The one think i did think of is that i now have an angel looking over me. Now you do too.
Vent to us all you need to. We are here for you. Thoughts, prayers and hugs sent your way. ISA

Ah, Stacie, I'm so sorry. If you need anything, even just a good listener, just say so.

Stacie,

I am so very sorry. One of the things that sucks about being a woman is the automatic transfer of the burden of care- we seem to be the one that look after our children, our parents, the welfare of extendsed family and inevitably deal with things when the unthinkable happens. And still get the groceries and make dinner. Most men just don't seem to.

I hope they pull their weight soon, you have enough to deal with,

J

Oh, Stacie,
I feel so terribly for you. When I read about Shawn needing surgery again I just couldn't believe all you were having to deal with. Now your dad?? This is just cruel. I wish I lived near you so I could help out somehow.
I am so incredibly sorry for what you are going through.
Tell your brothers you need help and they need to buck up!

here for blogger bingo ( a sad post from march of 2008 ) I am so sorry to have to find your blog this way, at the news of your dad's passing. I know it has been over a year, but also know that the pain of loss never leaves. I pray that life has been kinder to you now (things seemed to really be piling on to you at the time of this post.)
Peace
