When I got to the appointment, the doctor had talked himself out of an HSG and wanted to do the saline check of the uterus instead. He just didn't think there would be an issue with my tubes because I had already had a clear HSG before and he really wanted to stay away from the radiation if I didn't need it. Against my better judgement, that is what we did. (Why don't I listen to myself?)
Afterward, I went to go get my post op report on the way home (which took me 40 minutes!)because there was no time before I went to the RE. The report states clear as day that there was hydrosalpinx of the left tube. Shit. That is what we didn't want to see. Blocked tubes = not pregnant.
Is.aac faxed the report to the RE just a little while ago, so I haven't talked to the doctor about this yet. My intuition is telling me I'll have to go back for the damn HSG anyway. Who knows what this will do the Plan.
And yes. It hurt like a MOTHER. Either I am now a wuss, or some serious shit is different in the old innards now.
Oh, and the best part is that my cervix is still tight. It looks like I am looking at a dilation again (only the most painful procedure I have EVER experienced, even after childbirth) before a transfer...
I've definitely had better days.

Ugh, are they going to need to do surgery to fix the tube? I think I remember hydrosalpinx needing to be fixed before you ttc? Not sure, my tubes are blocked by good old scar tissue.
Dilation, yes. Hurts. Like. Hell. They had to manually dilate me for my HSG, and nearly gave up. Never doing that again.

omg Stacie I am so bending over in pain for you and this fucking hsg. I know they hurt like a fuckerduck OWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!! Now was it the hsg you had back i nthe day that killed or the saline check? Either way- ow :( The cervix has to be the most ouchie body part we own man. OMG I am so wishing you can be like knocked out and that this left tubie unclogs itself just to make life a little easier!

I will tell you that through out my infertility days...I had some appointments that hurt like a mo fo and some that I didn't feel.
Here's hoping you get that HSG done. for peace of mind. AND that it doesn't hurt.
I thought you were going to do IVF again. am I confused. also...can I ask, and please feel free to answer via email if you don't want answer here. but don't you have a few frozen embryos from your 3 IVF's ?

Cathy- no idea yet what they'll want to do about the tube. My guess is that the HSG would be first to check to see if they can clear whatever is going on that way, but wth do I know. From what I've read, losing the tube is a strong possibility. Dilation could definitely be used as a torture tool. It made me instantly sick to my stomach when he said I'd need it again.
Neenie - I had an HSG done in 2006 and it was not painful at all. Took a couple of advil beforehand and I hardly flinched during the procedure.
Karen - (you know I am an open book, don't you? ask me any questions) I have one frosty from IVF #1, but we're holding on to it as a last resort. I'd like to continue to use fresh cycles as long as my body will do it. We do plan on doing IVF, but hydrosalpinx will affect the outcome according to the doctor. He says that pregnancy rates decline dramatically if the blocked tubes remain. I am not sure of the technicals behind why that is so, though. He told me, but I tuned him out...

You're not a wuss at all, I had one done and it freakin hurt! Since they dilate your cervix it's like you are in labor.... ack. So sorry it looks like you'll have to go back for an HSG, that sucks.

Ugh, the saline u/s hurts like crazy. Dontcha love how they say, "this will be a little uncomfortable." Much worse than the HSG. I didn't find that too bad, although I was very crampy for a couple of days afterwards. But that could have been because of the big uterine polyp they found in my lining. Since that was what was making my periods SO BAD, it makes sense to me that it could cause crampiness after the HSG.
My feeling is, that no matter how sucky these test are, better to endure them than have a failed cycle because of something that could have been addressed. I insisted on a repeat saline u/s before my FET in Feb. The RE said it wasn't necessary since my previous one was less than a year earlier, but I said let's check that Mr. Polyp hasn't grown back before transferring embryos that could actually stick!
