Letter to the Stupid, Annoying Nurse

Dear Nurse,

Thank you for your cheery attitude. I love that you say all is going well and to proceed as planned. It does instill confidence in your patients.

Well it did until I asked you the level of my E2. (Were you hoping I wouldn't ask? Do people really not ask you what their hormone levels are? They just take your word on things? Yikes.) The upbeat attitude began to darken some when you told me it is 35. Yes, I am fully aware that that is 1 whole precious unit BELOW where it was FRIDAY of last week. (Yada, yada, yada, acceptable percentage of lab fluctuation so it may be a bit higher and Friday's results may have been a bit lower yada, yada, yada.) I am keenly aware that this lower E2 level is AFTER nearly $1100 worth of medication already shot into me.

But, I guess I am the only one keeping track of said levels.

I hope your insistence that the birth control pills would not suppress me too much will ultimately be correct. I'd hate to think about the alternative.

Oh, and thank you for the nice explanation of how E2 levels balloon toward the end of a cycle. Yeah. I am such a novice at this type of thing that I didn't realize estrogen levels increase as follicles mature. That was helpful.

Your annoyed patient,

Stacie

This isn't boding well for IVF #5. Yes, it is still early. Yes, I saw some pretty black blobs on both ovaries on the u/s screen. Still, it would have been nice to see something tangible from the blood work...

Oh, UGH. I am so sorry. I keep checking for news, and this is not the news I wanted for you. I know it probably doesn't help, but my e2 was a whopping 43 after FOUR DAYS of stims, and only 127 after six days, and I almost got canceled, and then everything leapt upward all of a sudden and I got 21 eggs (my shitty, shitty eggs, none good enough to freeze, but that is unrelated). The point is it turns out it IS fairly common to have a jump. Though don't be afraid to call your RE and bitch, either. Not too late to adjust dosage.

I am sorry you got news that has you discouraged. (Not commenting on the actual estrogen levels because, despite having gone through 3 IVF cycles not so long ago, I seem to have suppressed all relevant knowledge.) I will say this -- on the cycle that resulted in my baby, I was completely sure that the cycle needed to be canceled because of the lead follicle and that it was crazy to stim for as many days as they had me stim for. I felt like the RE office was nuts, and just pushing things along, because for them, why not? But, it was a happy story at the end! I am hoping for the same for you.

I hate when medical professionals treat you like a moron. I am keeping my fingers crossed that you get that big balloon at the end.

hang in there sister! --- keep the updates coming - it may be a bumpy road - but getting to the end is your only goal - you don't care how you get there. can you message your RE tomorrow and ask if you need to up the dosage?

Fingers Crossed!!

I know well the pain of shitty doctors that don't listen.

Ugh.

Hope things get better!
