Things at work have been chaotic, as it always is this time of year, but my students keep climbing up the crazy scale (and frankly, I think my idea of "normal" is totally skewed anyway. To say they are doing some serious crazy says something). Much of the time I walk away shaking my head because, dude, how do they come up with the shit they come up with?
As I put on my FB page on Friday:
"I'm still shaking my head at finding a fish in a Gatorade bottle at the bottom of a boy's backpack today. The fish was still alive. I don't know how it could be considering it had been in his backpack since at least TUESDAY! The fish was in water, thankfully. It had been fed very well, too, because it's water was not the cleanest. I can't believe his family didn't notice the fish was gone. I mean...come on! Wouldn't you notice a freaking fish is not in the bowl? There are so many things wrong with this I don't even know where to start...sigh."
I also have another student that worries me. His last day is on Thursday, but I am somewhat worried he will do something. He has many home issues and has a fascination with some seriously inappropriate things. Plus, he's starting to do things to get himself into trouble--like he wants to be...stopped caught. (I am not fearing for my life or anything. It's just that my spidey senses are tingling.) I've talked to everyone I can think of about this kid, and we are all on the lookout for something...anything. Friday can't get here fast enough.
Junior high is so different from when I was that age.

My mom is going on a trip to Alaska with her mom, sister, and brother-in-law the day after school gets out. She will be gone at least a month, possibly up to six weeks. They're driving, which is a stressor for me, so they've decided to go wherever they want along the way for as long as they want. I am starting to sweat about her being gone that long. Since my dad died, I've been hyper alert about her. I am excited for her adventure, and I imagine this might be good for me and my issues, but I am almost in a panic about the whole thing.

I finally broke down and got the boys yet another set of new lenses for their glasses. This is the third pair of lenses we've had to get in the last six months. Sigh. (The eye place once asked if we had dogs chewing on the boys' glasses. Nope, just kids.) Anyway, while I was there having their lenses replaced, I had them replace the nose pads, too.
Sh.awn's glasses kept sliding down his nose, so I just assumed that they had bent the frames some when they were working on them the day before and intended to fix them.
Um, nope.
The technician had actually put one of the nose pads in facing the wrong way. I couldn't believe it. I mean, isn't that glasses care 101 or something? I took the glasses back to the store to point out their stupidity.

Lastly, please stop by and give Maya some extra love. She just lost her little Encino man after her second FET. My heart just aches for her. It is just so unfair to have to work so hard for something so wanted and have it taken away.

On race day.
At mile 11 I was not quite as perky, though.
