My mom has completed her 7th of 12 chemo sessions. She is hanging in there, but it is clear that the full dosage of chemo is too much for her body. We did a trial session with a reduced dosage (80% of the dose) for session #6, and she did so much better physically. On Thursday we are to discuss how to proceed.
Reducing her meds is a scary prospect. There are no studies on the effectiveness of a lower dose, so to change the plan will bring in questions on the long term outcome. :(

We will be headed out to a camping weekend this month. The camp is designed for kids with serious medical issues and their families, so I am really hoping the boys love it. I, on the other hand, am pretty equally divided between dread and excitement, depending on the time/day you ask.
I'm feeling 90% positive about the whole thing. That 10% that is questioning though? Sheesh, it's loud and persistent. Sigh.

We just celebrated the big boys' NICU Homecoming Days. It's mind blowing to think that it's been 9 years since our time in the NICU. Seems like yesterday in a lot of ways. It also seems like centuries ago.

Cancer is always scary no matter what. Throw in unknown variables and it has to be terrifying. I think of you and your mom often and pray for the best possible outcome.
I'm sure if the boys love the camp, you will love it as well! I find myself loving anything that makes my kids happen. Experiencing joy through them is pretty much the best thing ever!
Chemo was really rough on my mom as well. I don't think they lowered her dosage but she did have a lot of ancillary medicine to control the side effects. She still has lasting effects from the chemo, things that are worrisome, like elevated potassium from liver issues, some diminished lung capacity from a horrible cough she developed during chemo, and the doctor's were concerned about her heart. My mom described chemo as basically the doctor's are trying to kill everything in you but hopefully not all of you.... Wishing your mom the best and I hope the 10% is wrong about camp and you have a fabulous time!
