As the waves from this round of subpoenas have widened, so has the general panic level of those around me. My phone has been on fire tonight. People who never thought they'd be called are now starting to sweat.
It is really so strange. We talked to the investigators MONTHS ago, for some it has been YEARS...and then nothing. We would hear through the media when the trial was postponed, but there was little if any direct contact for most of this time. No one really knew who would be used in the trial--we still don't know the full extent. Until a new subpoena goes out that is.
Then you start to evaluate how close it is getting to you. You start to question if you'll be next.
The scab has been picked. The emotions are raw. For quite a few, PTSD has reared its ugly head. (At one point it was found that 2/3 of the staff members had multiple indicators that suggested they were at risk for developing PTSD.)
So far, only three staff members have testified. It's only a week into the trial.
Man if it's not going to be a long month.

I had to testify in a lawsuit about a patient a few years ago. It had literally been almost 3 years from the time I had this patient until I was called, and we KNEW at the time the incident went down that the husband was going to sue. It was extremely stressful to be pulled into this fight between a man I felt very sorry for and a surgeon I highly respected.
Oh man does that suck. I hope you find out soon whether you have to testify or not.
