Update

I got the call from the investigator today. My subpoena will come either Friday or Saturday. I am expected to appear on the 25th at 1:30. Fortunately, one of my best friends was asked to appear at the same time on the same day so we can carpool.

My stomach has been in knots for days with the worry of whether I would be called or not. Now that I know, my stomach isn't as bad. I hate not knowing. Now that I do, I feel so much better. I imagine my stomach will start acting up as it gets closer to the 25th, though.

One of my coworkers who was subpoenaed by the prosecution got an anonymous phone call from some psycho who screamed at her for helping the defense's case. It came us as a "private" number, but she answered it thinking it was her son. By the time I talked to her, my coworker was in tears.

People think they know what happened that day and there is such contempt for the defendant, and I guess now for anyone they think has helped him.The things that they write about him are sickening. It is not that big of a stretch that it would come to this. They are using the witnesses' full names in the newspaper--it was easy enough for the psycho to find her. Most of us are listed in the phonebook under our full names.

When I talked to the defense investigator today, I told her what had happened to my coworker. The investigator said she was going to try to get it ruled that they wont use our full names. Ugh... I hope she is able to get that done. They could still find our names if they looked hard enough, but that extra step might keep a lot of the crazies at bay.
People don't understand why his teachers would be willing to help him after he did such a horrible thing. (I know because I get asked everywhere I go. If they find out where I work, they always ask about what happened. I hate it.) We were all deeply affected by what happened, but how could we not help him? He is one of our "kids." The consensus is that we lost two kids that day. Sadly, we can't help one any longer, but we can help the other.

There hasn't been a divide between the staff on this issue like you might expect, either. We've agreed that you have to answer the questions you're asked and we can't fault each other on what we believe/feel after what happened or on how what is said is used in the case. It may be hard for people to understand, but we are pretty united in that feeling. I wish I could explain it better without being so cryptic.

Sigh.

So there it is. I've ten more days before I can be done (hopefully).

I can't wait for it to be over.

Oh my. Whatever happened must not of occurred in my area of the country, as I am not sure to what incident you are referring to (for good reason!) But I wish you the best in your court appearance, hope that it will be over for you soon and that whatever "justice" is delivered, that it is appropriate and fair.

I hope they don't need you ! That they change their minds and you can sit quietly at home with no bad phone calls.

I don't know the story, just snip-its of what you have posted since I have been following you, but for you to have the attitude of helping the one you can still help is commendable.

I hope it is over quickly.
